Speaker
Dr. Carol A. Weiss
Director, Institute for Teaching and Learning, Villanova University
Funded by the Teagle Foundation, this project will examine applications of recent research on the human brain and its development in order to improve student mastery of disciplinary content during the early years of college.
Following this Faculty Development Workshop, SEPCHE will convene a Collegium of 16 faculty (2 from each SEPCHE institution) who teach core courses in the arts, humanities, sciences, and social sciences. Interested faculty will receive a stipend as they work together to develop metacognitive approaches to instruction in their discipline. They will implement and assess how “learning to learn” strategies affect student success in their core courses, and results will be disseminated to all SEPCHE faculty.
Professor of Psychological and Brain Sciences, Dr. Christian Jernstedt of Dartmouth College and Medical School, and Faculty Development Specialist Dr. Carol Weiss of Villanova University will serve as project consultants.
