Course Description: This course will provide teachers of mathematics in grades 5 to 8 with the tools and experience to implement activity-based learning and to utilize technology effectively in the classroom. In a small group, collaborative setting, teachers will explore a variety of mathematical topics and activities. Applications and methods for incorporating technology into the teaching of mathematics will be emphasized. The use of technology will include calculators, appropriate computer software, spreadsheets, and the Internet.

Each participant will develop and submit an after-course project that (s)he will implement in the classroom. Collaboration will be encouraged. Projects and results of the implementation will be presented at the half-day symposium in November. Project guidelines and advising will be provided to course participants.

After completion of the course, participating teachers will receive materials useful for developing activities in the math classroom.
