Since 1996, the SEPCHE-Human Resources Officers (HROs) have been meeting, collaborating, supporting, and facilitating professional development programs. Included in the group are the HROs from Arcadia University, Cabrini College, Chestnut Hill College, Eastern University, Gwynedd Mercy University, Holy Family University, Immaculata University, Neumann University, and Rosemont College. During this time, six Collaborative Management Development Programs (CMDP) have been offered to management-level employees, in which expert facilitators have been hired to present an array of relevant human resources topics. In addition, the SEPCHE-HROs have facilitated leadership and development programs to hundreds of our collective managers/supervisors through the ongoing ‘Managing in the Academic Workplace’ program.
In 2000, the SEPCHE-HROs received national recognition for excellence in human resource practice for developing the Collaborative Management Development Program (CMDP) for their mid-level managers. 20-35 mid-level managers from each institution participated in the first program, and the number of attendees has grown steadily with each new session.
In March 2009, the SEPCHE-HROs hosted a well-received diversity forum titled, ‘Recognizing and Valuing Differences,’ in which close to 100 management-level employees attended one of two identical ½ day workshops. Funded by a grant from the Lumina Foundation for SEPCHE’s ‘Serving the Underserved’ initiative, Dr. Barbara Collins of Positive Trends, Inc., provided the keynote address, and Anita Foeman and Nate Terrell (both of Organizational Growth, Inc.) offered participants a variety of strategies to achieve cross-cultural understanding.
The SEPCHE-HROs also work together to address and assure compliance with federal, state and local government employment regulations in an efficient, cost-effective and collaborative manner. Recent discussion topics include the potential development and implementation of technology-based managerial training programs and the ongoing quest to identify possible alternative carriers, consortiums and/or plan designs in response to escalating health care costs.
