The Southeastern Pennsylvania Consortium for Higher Education (SEPCHE) is a consortium of eight independent higher education institutions in the Greater Philadelphia region that collaborate to improve the quality and efficiency of academic programming, student access, faculty development, institutional operations and community outreach, through a range of shared activities, services, technology and information.

Together these institutions enroll more than 20,000 students and represent the third largest higher education provider in the Delaware Valley.

Collectively the Consortium awards more teaching credentials and master’s degrees in education than any other institution in Pennsylvania.

CURRENT initiatives

COMING March - October 2010:
SEPCHE Institute for Mathematics & Science

Free ACT 48 Workshops for Teachers of Mathematics and Science provides professional development opportunities for K-12 math and science teachers in Philadelphia and surrounding regions. Conferences and workshops are offered free of charge at all eight member institutions and are designed to address current content, pedagogy and technology that participating teachers can adapt for elementary, middle and high school classrooms. This coordinated series of activities is funded by grants from the U.S. Department of Education.

Creating Active Pathways to Student Learning
A grant from the Teagle Foundation has enabled all eight Consortium colleges and universities to examine recent cognitive brain research applications on learning and to test various brain-based learning strategies that  improve student mastery of disciplinary content during the early years of college.

Nurturing Student Scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences,
Nurturing Student  Scholars in the Humanities and Social Sciences is an undergraduate research project of the Southeastern Pennsylvania Consortium for Higher Education  (SEPCHE) created with support from The Barra Foundation and the Foundation for Independent Higher Education (FIHE). The project enabled student researchers and faculty mentors to engage in collaborative research within a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines during the 2008 and 2009 summer terms.

Serving the Underserved
A recent grant from the Lumina Foundation provided an opportunity for all eight institutions to assess underserved students at their institutions and to develop and test initiatives that enhance recruitment, retention and academic success.
